Market trends indicate a continuous growth of the semiconductor market in the next three decades, with the main sectors using semiconductor chips and electronic devices being the automotive and aerospace industries, data centers, telecommunications, defense industry, automation and robotics, mechanical engineering, medicine, as well as horizontal areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, increasing the productivity, efficiency and flexibility of production and the supply chain.

By definition, solid-state electronics (microelectronics) covers the design, technologies and materials and the production of integrated circuits (chips), as well as post-production processes (assembly, testing, packaging), and to a large extent the application of chips. Accordingly, the current bachelor's program provides the necessary fundamental knowledge within the first four semesters, while in the following four semesters specialized disciplines related to the design, technologies and applications of micro- and nanoelectronics are studied.

The application for an OKS "Bachelor's" degree at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Technologies is carried out, as in the other faculties of the Technical University - Sofia, namely by submitting applicant documents and ranking the candidates.
Ranking is based on the results of the state maturity exam (matura) in mathematics or physics, or Bulgarian language and literature, and/or a competitive exam. The competitive exam is in the form of a test in mathematics.
Candidates who have successfully passed the competitive exam or possess valid results from state maturity exams (maturs), in accordance with the admission conditions, participate in the ranking.

Leading representatives of the microelectronics industry in Bulgaria actively participate in the educational process, contributing to the development of practical knowledge and professional competencies among students.

Within the specialized training, the education is conducted in close cooperation with leading companies in the "Microelectronics" sector in Bulgaria – GlobalFoundries Bulgaria, Renesas Design Bulgaria, FACIT, Melexis Bulgaria, AUO Behr-Hella Thermocontrol, Festo, Visteon, LEM Bulgaria, Smart-com Bulgaria, as well as international companies and research and development centers such as imec-Belgium, Helmholtz-Germany, Infineon-Austria. The topics for course projects, as well as the assignments for diploma theses, can be formulated jointly with representatives of the companies that participate as consultants.

Graduates receive a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Micro- and Nanotechnologies.
